Digital painting of Cherokee village. I was trying to tap into a little Imaginative Realism- informed by my James Gurney book. I wrangled some reference images of the Blue Ridge mountains and American Indian villages and got to work meshing them convincingly. I’m pleased with the colors in this one, and the digital ‘texture’ I got with my brushes. Here I’m leaning into layering, treating the canvas more like a real oil painting.

I’ve seen some brushes that imitate the stickiness of oil paint which might be worth looking into, as I felt that the layering was an uphill battle- particularly with the foliage.
